I kind of wish my family didn't just do turkey and ham at Christmas too. I always get sent home with a care package of leftover turkey and ham and I wish we didn't just do the same meal 4 weeks or so later.

The tradition is pretty deeply rooted in my family though and there is little chance of changing it now.

    Other dishes--

    cornbread dressing
    mashed potatoes
candied sweet potatoes (traditionally topped with toasted marshmallows)
a broccoli, cheese and rice casserole that I love
a really gross "corn salad" which is really just frozen corn mixed with pimentos, cream cheese and maybe sour cream
    steamed or sauteed asparagus
    pumpkin pie
    pecan pie
a chocolate pie that my nephew prefers

I can't recall a time we didn't have Turkey for Thanksgiving, but we normally don't do a turkey or ham at Christmas. We usually have Mexican. Last year we made a beef tenderloin. Fantastic meal, just don't look at the price tag when they ring it up.

We do Mexican at Christmas also. None of us are HUGE turkey fans-we like it every now and then. My dad would love a ham at Christmas, but only he and my brother eat ham.

I think that's why my sister never did the prime rib again. A gigantic turkey-- $18.00. A middle-sized crown roast -- $80.00

One time I talked my sister into making a huge Prime Rib crown roast instead of a turkey at Christmas. It stands out in my mind as the most awesome Christmas Dinner Ever. Not Thanksgiving or anything, but still...

I remember she also made a from-scratch horseradish sauce which I damned myself by saying that I "didn't hate it"

I had to go with other. On T-day with all the fixing's, I like white meat. A couple of days later on a sandwich I prefer the dark meat. Never have been a fan of ham, unless it's in potato soup, of maybe a bowl of beans.

Ham and Mashed Potatoes are the best part of the holiday.

In Memphis, it was a Tradition to serve spaghetti for the holidays, which seemed dumb to me.
