Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I think. There's no gift-giving pressure or disappointment. There is just amazing food and catching up with family members you don't see most of the year. Also the Cowboys game-- woops, there's the disappointment. Found it.
I think this is part of the reason why Halloween and Xmas get all the attention. If you boil 'em down to the nitty gritty main event, Halloween is either about taking a walk around the neighborhood to get free candy, or attending a wild party, either activity being enhanced by colorful and wacky costumes. Xmas is all about getting and giving presents. Meanwhile Thanksgiving is about a family dinner. It's a lot harder to make that last one exciting.
