I'm not seeing his 2nd comment, the one where he writes a paragraph explaining how Trump likes the national debt and the debt is bad because it makes immigrants want to come here and work, and if we got rid of the debt, no immigrants would want to come here to work (I can't remember if it made wages high or low, but whatever).  I guess no one responded and he got mad and deleted it.

I saw that one earlier too, and it seemed like a rather goofy attempt to stir up an economic argument, which I guess didn't happen.

Exactly. Where does it end? You have a gimme nomination rather than one with merit. Don't think that once you start that, there won't be protests, because the "gimme" didn't win. Then it will be complaints that they only win supporting roles and so on until you invalidate the entire thing. You are creating a subset, to appease people that holds little real value. Jack mentioned it in his article, how Up should have won best pic, but because they created a Animated award, it's unlikely one will every win best picture.

Straight outta Compton got a nomination for best screenplay.




All I know about Concussion is that Will Smith was sporting a ridiculous accent. I don't know if the accent was 110% authentic, it sounded stupid coming out of Will Smith's face.

And while brain injuries are terrible, I have a hard time feeling sympathy. NFL players spend season after season trying like hell to rattle each others' brain pans, then get up in arms about the consequences. Hey, maybe learn appropriate tackling skills and stop just trying to knock the opponent's head off.

Yeah, entitlement and Oscars are a thing that gets tangled up a lot. It even affects fans of certain actors, like all the people who've been saying for years that Leo should have gotten an Oscar already. That's a subjective matter of opinion really. There are plenty of actors or directors who get overlooked many times, but there's no scientific way to prove that they should have won any given year.

I didn't watch the ceremony, but I read a bit about some of Chris Rock's opening monologue, wherein he stated that the protests reflects how much worse things there were to protest about in decades past, than who was nominated for snooty movie awards.

Yea, I understand that diversity is a great goal. But as Patch points out, there have to be movies made first.

If you don't fix the front end you can't complain about the back end. Make good movies that star great actors and you should have a shot. If your movie sucks, but you did an accent, shouldn't guarantee you a shot.
